Sue has eighteen years’ headship experience, including five years as a National Leader of Education. Over the last 9 years, 4 years during her headship, Sue has worked as an advisor for the DfE with the NCTL (National College for Teaching and Leadership) and was sub-regional lead for Essex, Southend and Thurrock. She was a TSC (Teaching Schools Council) Associate for the Eastern Region and also worked as a SIP in the East of England.
Sue was headteacher of The Billericay School for 18 years (Outstanding 2011) and was Executive Headteacher of Sawyers Hall School in 2004-5. She was the winner of Essex Secondary Headteacher of the year in 2015. Sue is Chair of Governors at a secondary school in Newham. In addition to this, she is also a Trustee at a large multi academy chain of primary and secondary schools with both academic and vocational sixth forms. Previously, Sue was a Trustee and Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee at a large sixth form academy in Greenwich and she worked with the Nuffield Health wellbeing project in 2015 to promote wellbeing for both staff and students.
Across her career, Sue has worked in areas of urban, rural and coastal deprivation and has experience of providing CPD, initial teacher training, leadership development, budget management training for headteachers, recruitment and retention strategies for Schools and supporting the targeted support fund, and the strategic school improvement fund.
