Peter is a CCAB qualified accountant, being a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants. He obtained his qualification in 1976 and started his accounting career in public accounting, working for a firm of Chartered Accountants. Upon acquiring his accountancy qualification, Peter became Chief Accountant and Company Secretary of a group of companies located in Ipswich engaging in shipping, warehousing and transportation. Following a move to the USA in the early ‘80s, he initially worked for a business management company dealing with the accounts and finances of the rich and famous. He then moved into public accounting and worked as a manager in a certified public accountancy firm; there he obtained his CPA (Certified Public Accountant) licence.
A move into corporate accounting followed with Colin’s Food International: a billion-dollar multinational organisation, where Peter was initially Corporate Controller then, following a promotion, was appointed as Vice President of internal audit. Following this he moved to Paramount Pictures and began working there as manager of internal audit and became Financial Controller of consolidated accounts.
Upon Peter’s return to England, he worked for the Audit Commission then went to the National Audit Office where he was Team Leader for the audit of the Dept. of Trade & Industry and the Home Office. Following this, he took charge of the DTI’s central government accounts programme. Peter was approached by HM Treasury to work on the central government accounts consolidation. With the introduction of the whole of government accounts he returned to the DTI to take charge of the consolidation of its 45 agencies. At this point in his career Peter took early retirement, which only lasted for a year as he then returned to work to provide financial guidance to Harwich & Dovercourt High School and headed up the Finance Department. When HDHS joined The Sigma Trust, Peter was appointed as Trust Responsible Officer & Compliance Officer (internal auditor) until his retirement from this role in 2021.
