Thomas Lord Audley creating and donating PPE for key workers
A COLCHESTER secondary school has been doing its bit to support key workers during the coronavirus crisis by producing and donating protective equipment.
Technology staff at Thomas Lord Audley School, in Monkwick Avenue, have been creating face and ear protectors from scratch for distribution to care workers.
The school has also rounded up all its spare safety equipment from its science and catering departments.
Debra Baker, a design and technology teacher at the school, has so far created more than 100 face and ear protectors.
She said: “I have members of my own family and friends working in Colchester Hospital and care homes and would hate to think that they would be doing their job without the protection they deserve.
“This is what encouraged me the most, everybody is doing their bit in some way or other and making these face visors was my small contribution.”
Headteacher Helena Boast paid tribute to the thoughtfulness of her team of staff.
She said: “In these difficult and trying times for all of us I am so proud that so many members of the team have come up with ideas to help our local community.
“All this, while the staff continue to look after children of key workers, provide home-schooling activities and support children and families.”
